This advent devotional guide was put together for 2011, but is usable for any year. The booklet is available as a simple page order pdf file to view on the screen or print out. It is also available in printer spreads that can be printed out 2-sided, stapled and folded to make a half-sheet sized booklet.
It is based on the “O Antiphons.” The O Antiphons are a series of simple expressions of yearning that have been used by Christians for many centuries. The familiar carol O Come, O Come Emmanuel is a paraphrased version of the O Antiphons.
The antiphons use seven different Biblical names of Jesus to express a longing for Him and for His work in our lives. The “O” is a form of address that expresses an earnest desire, almost a pleading. Using the antiphons we can express a “Christmas wish list” that embodies our hopes in Him. What more could we want than the very wisdom of God, the deliverance of the Lord, the just reign of David’s line, the opening of the way to God, the certain hope of the Morning Star, a king that is King of All Kings, and, breathtakingly, God-With-Us?
